It Doesn't Matter

It Doesn't Matter
Written and transcribed by Terry Grant

This is the conclusion of a message I have transcribed and edited from a talk Ishvara gave on October 23, 2005. - TG.

Ishvara:

There was a point where I literally laughed at the emotional hooks in my life. I laughed at them. I saw how they were made of air, while for so long I had thought they were real and all-powerful, and that I was helpless. That was the realization where the intellect came to a screeching halt: "What have I been believing here? What has happened?" It was the realization that “stuff happens”, but with the clarity, the awareness and connection, and the all-rightness with the Self, that allowed me to be OK with whatever it might be.

Mistakes are simply experiences. They are only bad if you don’t make use of them. If they control you, they are not helpful. When you realize you have made mistakes, you can form a relationship with them: "What was it saying? What was the lesson? What was I to see with that?" You would be surprised. If you take the time to look, you will see some pretty amazing things. You will see beliefs and concepts that have controlled your life forever. And you will realize that it is no big deal. There is no power in the past, just hooks.

The emotions simply snag the energy-that-you-are and direct it into a belief, a neural pathway, the way you believe it is, and you will find ample justification in the intellect for the way you believe it is. But the superior intellect, the high intellect knows better, and says, “You are actually conning yourself. You’re making believe that this conditional, consensus-reality-belief stuff is real. You’re pretending.” At any moment you can step out of the pretense and be real. You say, “What has that got to do with me? I don’t live there any more. Maybe I used to live there, but I don’t live there any more. I’m building a new home. I’m establishing a new place. I’m living at a different level, a level of integration and awareness and connection and transcendence, full of marvelous possibilities that need energy. So I don’t have energy to waste on the past.” It is about moving on, every moment.

So you fall over yourself. So what? Just don’t lie there and wallow in your self. Get up. Laugh at it: “What a trip!” You tripped. See, I told you: emotions are drugs; you trip on them. Unfortunately, the trips are pretty bad trips. I am offering you a good "trip," an awareness trip. It is the "trip" where you can’t be tripped any more. No more falling. It involves moving on. It entails allowing Life to be all it can be in each moment. It is so simple. Just allowing, allowing Life to be all it can be, being present, watching.

One big lesson I have learned through all these events is that it just doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter what people think of me. It doesn’t matter what people believe about me. The only thing that matters is what I know about myself. The only thing that can hurt me is what I believe about myself. The only thing that can help me is what I believe and know about myself. No one can affect me. No one can control me. If someone tries to do so, I say, “Here’s my bag. Fill it up. I can put that energy to good use.” That is the positive knowing of what Life really is, and the bottom line is that it really doesn’t matter. It really doesn’t. It doesn’t matter if you are fearful or brave, or if you have been a wimp. It doesn’t matter if you are afraid for survival. Nothing matters unless you make it matter. That is the ultimate power, the ultimate source of existence. It is you who makes it matter, or you who deflates it. It is all up to you. That is liberation. Now you have to make it so.

I know, it sounds simple, but you have it within you. It is there. If you resonate with this, you know it is the truth, and so you just keep putting it in place of all the other stuff. Every time something else sneaks in, you throw it out and put this back: Ishvara says, “It doesn’t matter.”

You too can be liberated if you realize it doesn’t matter. As you work toward “it doesn’t matter,” you move toward liberation, which reveals the connection with all things, with all of Life, with all experiences. You see the unity of the parts, the synergy that is greater than the sum of the parts, the wholeness of Life, the direct experience of possibilities, moment by moment.
